Event summary
Following the result of the general election these two half day webinars provide an update of the position relating to local authority administered benefits services and the provision of other government and local authority support as well as the impact of changes to universal credit on local services.
The workshop takes place over two afternoons. We ask that you attend and book on to both workshops:

About this event
This first webinar on 10 September concentrates on housing benefit with an update on the current position of housing benefits and what changes may be made, followed by an update on the managed migration of claims to universal credit including the latest timescales and impact on housing benefit caseload.
This second webinar on 12 September provides an update on the delivery and changes to universal credit concentrating on how this impacts on local authority benefit services followed by an update affecting the assessment of council tax support claims including a review of the different types of local council tax support now operating in different local authorities.
Finally there is a roundup of recent relevant caselaw of the courts and tribunals affecting benefit services.
Who should attend?
Those Local Authority staff involved in the policy development and management of benefits services, staff involved in training and decision making and other staff with an interest in the local delivery of benefit services.
How will you benefit from attending?

- be aware of the latest issues affecting universal credit and how these impact on the administration of housing benefit and council tax support,
- be informed some recent caselaw which affect the administration of housing benefit and local council tax support claims which local authorities have retained responsibilities for,

Speaker - Sheldon Wood, Benefits Advisor, CIPFA Benefits and Revenues Service (CBRS)
Sheldon has 16 years of local government experience, including as Principal Benefits Officer at Sheffield City Council, where he managed the service and implemented major changes to the council's benefits administration. He joined the CIPFA Benefits and Revenues Service (CBRS) in 2003 and has trained and advised members of the team on all aspects of benefits legislation and local authority benefits service administration, focusing on the changes required as a result of successive government welfare reform policies and change programmes.
